Beginning from late 2008 until now, our team of two RoR developers help a US-based startup client design, develop, deploy, upgrade and maintain a web-based application that serves as a social networking platform for stock brokers, where they can share stock forecasts, etc.

Interesting experience includes

• Using Insoshi open-source social networking RoR framework as the basis for the application.
• Using the Yahoo Finance API to access the most current stock information real time.
• As we have launched the first beta version, we utilize the best practices of SVN with branching, merging, and tagging.
• Using Fusion Chart instead of the usual OpenFlashChart or GoogleChart as it offers more graphing functionalities.
• Implementing Liquid templating engine so that the staffs of the company can generate their own HTML email with a certain set of allowable data.

In this project for a Swedish client, we develop a simple Rails application that displays fishing spots across the Scandinavian countries using Google Map.

The interesting thing out of this small project is how we handle the displaying of the locations. Usually clicking on a location simply pops up a tooltip. But here, when user click once on a location, the map zooms in. Click again, the map further zooms in. The third click will open the tooltip containing detailed information of the location.

We also work on a simple CMS system to add, edit, and remove static pages.

We helped this US client in 2009 on their 'How well do you know X' Facebook applications. Although our involvement was not very significant, but it gives us a good idea on more complex features of Facebook applications, such as how to create more FB apps from one 'master' FB apps.

This website provides informations about hotels in Las Vegas. There are reviews from the hotel visitors, complete hotel locator with address and google map marker that pin-point the location of the hotel, hotel facilities. Web visitors can also compare hotels.

We use Paperclip plugin in this project rather than attachment_fu for uploading the images. We also use Crummy plugin to add the breadcrumb in this application, and Cucumber for BDD testing
